Tennova Healthcare - North Knoxville Medical Center Boosts Cardiology Knowledge on Staff for Community

Powell, TN (September 15, 2023) – Tennova Healthcare - North Knoxville Medical Center is proud to welcome Interventional Cardiologist Lekshmi Seemanthini, M.D., MPH, FACC, FSCAI, to the Tennova Heart team. Dr. Seemanthini brings special knowledge in cardiac catheterization, angioplasty and PCI/coronary stent placement.
Dr. Seemanthini grew up in a small state in southernmost India named Kerala. She has always enjoyed working with people and interest in cardiology as a specialty came to light when she was in her third year of medical school. It was at this time that a neighbor experienced cardiac arrest and there were no doctors immediately available. She was frightened, but administered CPR to her neighbor and transported them to the hospital and the neighbor made a full recovery thanks to Dr. Seemanthini. She relates that the experience was challenging and gave her the direction she needed to decide on a specialty.
“Cardiology is a dynamic and fascinating field, time is of the essence and I enjoy the challenges that have to be faced in that field,” Dr. Seemanthini states. “Heart disease is a leading killer in America and I want to not only be there for those with the disease needing care, I want to be part of the message of prevention so that we reduce this risk.”
Dr. Seemanthini received her medical degree in Trivandrum, Kerala, India, but also holds a master's degree in public health, which supports her endeavors to share preventive focus with the community. Her residency, cardiovascular disease fellowship and interventional cardiology fellowship were all with Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY.
