North Knoxville Medical Center Announces Clinical Launch of New Linear Accelerator
7/13/2026
North Knoxville Medical Center introduces its new linear accelerator (LINAC), becoming the first facility in the Southeast region to implement this innovative technology and further advancing cancer care for patients throughout Knoxville and surrounding communities.
The new system represents a significant advancement in radiation therapy and is designed to enhance precision, efficiency, and the overall patient treatment experience. This technology has AI adaptive imaging for more precise treatment delivery, improved dose output for quicker care, and a surface guided platform to maximize accuracy and improve patient comfort. By providing clinicians with clearer visualization of tumors and surrounding healthy tissue, treatments can be delivered with increased confidence and precision.
"Introducing this technology marks an important step forward for cancer care in our region," said Bill Rich, CEO of North Knoxville Medical Center. "Being the first in the Southeast to offer this system allows us to provide patients with access to highly precise treatment options designed to improve accuracy, enhance the treatment experience, and support better outcomes for those facing cancer."
This technology may also reduce treatment times for some patients, allowing for a more comfortable experience while minimizing time spent on the treatment table. The ability to deliver highly targeted radiation may help reduce unnecessary exposure to healthy tissues and potentially lessen side effects associated with treatment.
For cancer patients and families across East Tennessee, the availability of this system provides access to radiation therapy without having to travel outside the region for care. North Knoxville Medical Center remains committed to investing in technologies and services that support its mission of improving the health and well-being of the communities it serves.
